Southampton Imperia Porter (January, 2010)

Pours an almost complete pitch black body with a brown hue when held up to the light. The body has a nice bold look and richness to it. The head is about an index finger thick, tan in color, fluffy, great retention and good lacing. Nice robust scent of burnt toast and coffee grinds. Dark chocolate along with some licorice and milk. The scent also shows a mild alcohol finish. Good for the cold winter weather. Starts off with a nice flavor of black coffee with a burnt piece of buttered toast. Light biscuit tones with a light layer of licorice. The hops are light but give the beer a nice floral finish mixed with light alcohol. Complex with great balance. Smooth start with a nice fizzy build up. The beer is robust with a slick and lightly warm finish. This is a dangerous imperial porter because this beer mighty tasty and great and hides the alcohol very well. A beer well done and one everyone should try these winter months. Relax, be careful and enjoy
